First Sounds I can't remember my first sounds as it was so long ago.

No Fear Abbey Brass is a relaxed, nurturing environment, nobody needs to feel shy - I certainly didn't.

Reading Music After taking on board the basics you'll find that you'll learn something new at every practice and build your knowledge up graduallly.

New Notes Every so often practice some scales and you'll surprise yourself by hitting a new high note every once in a while.

Nice Sounds If you are struggling to make a nice sweet sound practice long notes.

Getting Really Good The more ppractice the better. Lots and lots of short practices but if you're enjoying it one or two longer sessions won't harm you.
I try and practice pieces we've been given in the band most days and I buy the odd "Playalong" book for a bit of variety. It's nice to have the backing tracks to accompany you. I suggest buying these books at the standard you are at as it can be offputting if they're too difficult (but get a more difficult one occasionally as it can do you good to stretch yourself especially if you find it's not as difficult as you first thought.

Journey Back to Brass As a "returner" who hadn't reached a very high standard when I stopped as a teenager I aould say to all children - Keep playing and don't give up unless you absolutely have to. If you achieve a good standard of playing it'll always be easier to take it up again in the future but far better not to stop at all!
If you're a "returner" be assured that Abbey Brass will welcome you and in no time at all you'll be enjoying banding life again!
